Which PV parks need storage next?

Every PV site from 1 MW without known battery storage — scored by size, grid proximity and competition. Each value is marked as official, derived by us or estimated.

The grade is a screening priority, not a statement on land, grid capacity or the owner’s willingness to sell. “Without storage” means: none assigned in the register and none reported nearby.

How the grade is built

Size · 30%

PV capacity of the site: from 50 MW → 100, from 20 → 80, from 10 → 65, from 5 → 45, from 2 → 30, otherwise 15. Several register units of one park are combined (DE ≤ 500 m, FR same municipality + same poste source).

Grid · 35%

60% distance to the nearest substation (DE from 110 kV, FR from 63 kV): up to 2 km → 100 … over 20 km → 10. 40% PV connection level: high/extra-high voltage or HTB 100, HV/MV transformation 90, medium voltage/HTA 70, low voltage 30.

Competition · 25%

Battery storage operating and planned within 10 km: none → 100, up to 20 MW → 80, up to 100 MW → 55, up to 300 MW → 30, more → 10.

Plant type · 10%

Ground-mounted 100 (space for containers), other 60, rooftop 30. France: not stated in the register → 60.

Data quality

official = directly from MaStR or RTE/ODRÉ · derived = computed by us (distance, no storage nearby) · estimated = approximation (France: municipality centre instead of plant site).

What is missing

Free grid capacity: not publicly available nationwide in Germany; RTE Caparéseau (France) has no open dataset with a licence for the mainland — link per row. Overseas territories: no grid data, not scored. Recomputed every Monday.
